DULL FADED PAINT? STONE CHIPS? JUST LOOKING A BIT TIRED? IS THE ANSWER! ... and can transform the look of your vehicle whatever the type or color it may be • Polishing, paint repair and valet • Unique stone-chip and scratch repairs • Top quality products for great lasting results "The best car yards choose us and now you can too" Maintaining your car's appearance Whether you detail your car to keep it looking its best or to retain a higher resale value there is no question that time spent looking after the appearance does improve the look, feel and value of the car. Here are a few of basic cleaning tips to keep your car looking great. • A clean car protects against dirt, and other contaminants picked up from the road every day. Regular washing is a key to keeping these contaminants from causing damage to your paint finish. • Wash your car in a shady spot or on a cloudy day. If a car is not kept cool while washing, the water will evaporate too quickly and could possibly leave spots. • Use proper car shampoo (not dishwashing liquid) and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the proper shampoo to water ratio. Start with the wheels, and wash them thoroughly. Use a lot of soapy water and a brush on the wheels and tyres to remove deep down dirt. Rinse, and then use a sponge or washcloth to follow-up. Take extra care with bonded brake dust and perhaps invest in a specific wheel cleaner if brake dust is a real problem. • A Sheepskin or Microfibre mitt is ideal for use on the vehicles paintwork; these materials have a large number of fine filaments that draw dirt and grime away from the surface. Wash from the top down, and rinse the car often. Use a final rinse of free flowing water (nozzle off the hose) to allow the water to sheet off the car and minimise drying time and water spotting... • A clay-bar will deep clean the paint and remove blemishes such as tar, water spots and insect remains a sw e l lau n w a n t e dp r e v i o u s wax residue and other bonded contaminants from the paint surface - Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions • Regular waxing is the best way for you to protect your paint from the elements. Rain, road grime, pollution and the inevitable bird droppings can all compromise your car's thin paint finish so a sacrificial wax layer is invaluable. Apply wax a panel at a time with a soft applicator pad for a thin even covering -- Let it dry and buff it to a smooth shine. Wax usually dries in a few minutes, and a microfiber or soft terry cotton towel is ideal to buff the panel. One coat of wax will provide great protection, however... for an exceptional protective shine, you may choose to apply a second coat of wax after a reasonable drying/setup time. • Touch up the Stonechips and scratches -- Chips and scratches not only look horrible but they encourage rust. You can touch them in yourself with your factory touchup paint or get the experts from Final Touch to do it when you notice that there are a few starting to gather. • Dressing the plastics, rubbers and mouldings will help prevent fading, bleaching and cracking. A few extra dollars spent on a quality dressing will save you money in the long run as while silicone will provide a temporary shine there are things in it that cause long term damage to plastics if overused. • Keeping the outside of your car clean is only half the job. The inside is threatened by many of the same contaminants that can damage your car's exterior, as well as anything your feet drag in from outside, rubbish and the crumbs from the pie you grabbed on the go. Regular vacuuming of the floors, upholstery, mats and under the seats will help keep your car's interior clean and hygienic. A narrow hose-end attachment will get into tight crevices such as between the centre console and the seats which can be a collection point for dirt and crumbs. • Use soapy water to scrub and rinse rubber mats and hose them off but make sure they're dry before you put them back in the car. • Clean the inside of the glass with a quality glass cleaner to remove any dirty, filmy build-up and when the glass is dry, polish it with a lint free cloth or perhaps even crumpled newspaper which does a surprisingly good job. • Use a clean damp cloth to wipe down areas such as the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and column and the inside of door and leather surfaces. It pays to be a little careful around clear plastics such as your speedo' cluster as these can scratch quite easily. • Periodic dressing of the interior plastics keeps them protected and looking sharp, we recommend 'wipe on' dressings rather than sprays. Sprays have a tendency to go on areas that you don't want them too such as carpets or your freshly cleaned glass. • Leather conditioning creams help keep your leather moisturised and supple, preventing cracking and premature wear. It is inexpensive preventative maintenance and well worth applying every now and then to keep your seats in great condition. Keeping your car looking great need not be too difficult, and the team from Final Touch are happy to help so if you are looking for advice on specific aspects of caring for your car please don't hesitate to call on Auckland, (09) 358 1141 - We'll do our best to point you in the right direction. Water Spots are awful and generally caused by failing to dry your car off after washing. When water drops evaporate any contaminants in the water dry onto the paintwork leaving a spot or a visible ring. If this happens repeatedly they can really bake into the surface and the only way to remove them becomes polishing. A good microfiber drying towel or Chamois will make quick work of clearing those water droplets and preventing that ugly spotting. A little white vinegar in your wash bucket can help reduce existing spots if they are not too serious.
