Hula hula: Right, Christmas wasn't the only inspiration for costumes. Man's best friend: Left, competitors take to the stage for a final showing. Best foot forward: Right, it was the little details that made the winner stand out at the Bruce Mason Centre's 12 Days of Christmas Dress Your Pet Competition. Why hello: The 'shake' was a popular trick for those out to impress the judges. By MARNIE HALLAHAN It was no ordinary Christ- mas at Takapuna's Bruce Mason Centre this year with everyone getting in the holiday spirit. The 12 Days of Christ- mas Festival opened with the first Dress Your Pet Competition and as one of the guest judges I can say the general cuteness levels made it very hard to pick a winner. Dog Whisperer Flip Cal- koen and Vanessa Graham of Orijen Pet Food joined me on the judging table as a parade of four-legged friends strutted onto the catwalk. From a Hawaiian hula pug to an angelic hunt- away cross the dogs were looking festive and were amazingly well-behaved to boot. But the top prize went to a gorgeous chihuahua dec- ked out in red and green with painted feet and a sparkly tutu. The festival kept going into the evening with night markets packed with treats, food and entertain- ment.
