R18 DATE: 19th Feb TIME: 8pm - 3am PRESTIGE ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS Dining at Tip Siam a charming experience Perfect prawns: A new entree at Tip Siam, Goong Sa-loong. Duck delight: Ped Tip Siam roast duck with sweet chilli sauce. There s something about Takapuna s Tip Siam that adds up to more than a lovely meal. Under Tip s gentle direction you are guaranteed of a charm- ing welcome and service in the best Thai tra- dition. The restaurant s decor is also easy on the eye -- exquisite Thai objects line beautiful timber panelled walls. There is charm in the food too. The Thai word for bowl is chaam , in which food flavours find harmony. Tip grows authentic Thai herbs and spices in her own garden, and many of the resulting Tip Siam sauces are totally original, unobtainable in any market! Which brings us to Tip Siam s menu, featuring dishes that are as gorgeous to look at as they are to eat. Among regular diners favourites are steamed whole ginger snapper; Ped Tip Siam roast duck with sweet chilli sauce; and Volcanic chicken -- small whole roast chicken, served with mild Tip Siam red sauce and flavoursome vege- tables and flambeed. Tip and her chefs regu- larly introduce new dishes -- recent additions include entrees like the beautiful prawn dish Goong Sa-loong; and Gai- joh -- deep-fried minced chicken, corn and egg in a light crispy wrap. Then there s Moo Ma- now -- pork slices with Thai herbs, broccoli, green beans and a spicy sauce; and Nesting Chicken -- stir-fried marinated chicken in sesame oil, cashew nuts and veges served in a latticed taro nest . Lunches are especially good value: $9.50 with a wide variety of curries and stir-fries including Moo Ma-now with pork or beef options. Order any dish and any drink and you ll receive two free spring rolls with lunch. Tip Siam is fully licensed, and very soon diners will be able to savour Tip s own-label wines -- sauvignon blanc, riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir and merlot- cabernet -- all great value and well suited to Thai food. Tip Siam s upstairs function room is one of the best, a delightful indoor-outdoor venue catering for 50 people. Set menu options are available. Tip Siam is open seven days for lunch from 11.30am and dinner from 5.30pm. Fully licensed and BYO wine. 152 Hurstmere Rd, Takapuna. Takeaways available. Phone 489-7911.
