Photo: JASON OXENHAM Well the past couple of weeks have felt like I have been back in Tur- key with this intense heat and humidity. No doubt everyone will be looking for some cooler conditions this Friday not only for those playing but those watching as well. Last week's game must have made for an interesting spectacle with the amount of slip- ping and sliding hap- pening on court, es- pecially down the stretch in the fourth where it seemed nearly every sec- ond play was marred by someone going down. It was an interesting reminder for me of the conditions we had to get accustomed to warming up for the world champs in Turkey last year. We spent the first two weeks training in a non- airconditioned gym in mid-30 degree temp- eratures. The stale air inside just got worse and worse eachdayanditgottoa point where we would turn up for practice in the morning and all the sweat on the floor from training the night before would still be sitting on the surface. I was drinking eight litres of water a day at this point and needed every last drop. Tomorrow we wel- come, along with hope- fully some better con- ditions, a very hungry Melbourne Tigers side. Having lost their head coach, leading scorer and best big man last week amid some major changes at the club they proceeded to smack Wollongong by 20 on Sunday night. We know they will be fired up to try and knock us off our perch but we will be ready as we try to makeitsixinarowfor the first time this season. Remember it's a Friday night game this week, hopefully we can sell it out again and make life tough for the Tigers. See you all there, book your tickets online at www.nzbreakers.co.nz.
