From left: Brett, 11, Tony, Mandie, and Nathan, 11. By GRACE ACKLAND The Devonsport Sun Run is a great way to get fit and spend some quality time with the family while enjoying the beau- tiful waterfront views. Every Thursday at 5.45pm keen walkers and runners meet at the Calliope Sea Scouts hall. The O'Neil family is among the regular participants. My 11-year-old twin boys really wanted to do it but I wasn't so keen and so I would just watch, but then I thought I would give it a go,'' Mandie O'Neil says. The Devonsport Sun Run began in 2009 and goes the entire length of King Edward and Queens parades as well as Cheltenham Beach. It is recommended to register at 5.40pm. Kick off is at 5.45pm so every- thing is finished around 6.45pm. When you register you receive a number and a completion time when you cross the finishing line. Ms O'Neil says it's fun, social, and you don't feel any pressure to try and be the fastest. I'm always the last one across the finish line but it's not an issue. We like to do it as a family,'' she says. Event co-ordinator Fiona Ferguson says sometimes up to 70 people attend. Ms Ferguson likes to keep it going every Thursday so it is consist- ent for people. The run is held from October through to April and is for all fitness levels and ages. Visit http:/ /res.nz.eventdirector.net/ DPSWM/SITES/1558/ or phone 446- 0134.
