North Shore Campus 1 Des Swann Drive Takapuna FREE NZQA REGISTERED & ACCREDITED Age-group champions: The 2010 Auckland Cricket Association under-15 development tournament at Birkenhead War Memorial Park from December 12 to17 featured teams from North Harbour, Manukau, Eastern, Central and Western districts competing in five one-day 50-over matches. Out of four games played, North Harbour Burgundy won three games, narrowly losing the final game but taking the tournament title because of a high run rate and wickets taken. Bundle of joy: Jo-anne and Kevin Twiggins have celebrated a very special milestone in their home with the birth of their first child. Leo Kevin Twiggins, born on November 13, is the first grandchild to the maternal grandparents, and first grandson to his paternal granny. Long-term love: Peter and Dawn Thomas, left, and Margaret and Neil Etherton, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversaries within two weeks of each other. The foursome have been friends for those 60 years and now all live at Mayfair Village in Albany. Dawn and Peter were married on September 9, 1950, in Christchurch, and Margaret and Neil were married on September 23, 1950, in Wellington. Student debt rising fast More students are borrowing to pay for their study with 2009 seeing the largest increase since the student loan scheme started. The number of students borrowing rose by 11.3 percent to 198,723 in 2009, an increase of 20,211 from 2008, according to figures released by Stat- istics New Zealand (SNZ). The number of students receiving an allowance grew by 25.4 percent to reach 80,703, the largest increase since 1999. 2009 also saw the largest increase in new borrowers with 61,269 people taking up the scheme for the first time. The amount students were borrowing also increased, with the average amount borrowed per year rising 0.6 percent to $6990.
