By SARAH CODDINGTON After: Victoria has been named the New Zealand Slimmer of the Year for Weight Watchers. Photo: BEN WATSON VICTORIA Pinder used to binge eat and hide the evidence to avoid her husband and family finding out. The Mairangi Bay resident knew she had to start eating properly when she looked at a photo of her- self as a bridesmaid at her sister s wedding. A year on and the mother of two who was once 78.6kg has lost 16kg. Now she has been named the New Zealand s Weight Watchers Slimmer of the Year and is taking on the role of the company s ambassador. She won a luxury trip for two to Australia worth more than $15,000 and a $2000 wardrobe makeover. Mrs Pinder suffered from post traumatic stress when her first born was born 11 weeks early and turned to food for comfort. I honestly couldn t remember the last time I had a positive self image, I wasn t even happy on my wedding day, she says. Weight Watchers Australasia managing director Joseph Saad says Mrs Pinder was chosen because she is an inspiration for other mothers who are going through a similar experience. The thing that got Mrs Pinder through her goal of losing weight was support from her family and attending the Weight Watchers meetings. The best piece of advice she can give other people attempting to lose weight is to take small steps at a time. Be kind to yourself and get sup- port, she says. She also took up a regular exer- cise routine and wants to attempt a half marathon early next year. I still have my treats -- I would go insane without my chocolate. I just don t scoff the whole block any more, she says.
