''Watch me count": Connor and Jonathan, both aged two, play and learn together When you pull into the carpark outside Angels Childcare in Takapuna you may be greeted with the wonderful smell of a banana cake baking! A fulltime cook on site to make fresh-baked goodies and hearty meals to tempt tiny taste-buds and fill little tummies is just one of the warm fuzzy factors that make Angels a home-away- from-home. And while children s needs are paramount, parental participation is very highly valued too. Parents appreciate the opportunities for a strong connection between home and cen- tre and frequently give positive feedback. This recent email to staff is an example -- I d like to thank you for the party on Friday and the lovely present Levi received. We both had a great time at the party. I d also like to take this opportunity to thank all the girls/women for doing such a great job. Levi is thriving at your centre and I can t believe how the time has flown, he s been there more than six months already! Thanks again! -- Debbie Scholtz, Mum of Levi, 18 months. Angels has a strong Christian philosophy and provides top-quality care in three separate areas where all staff are either fully qualified or in their last year of qualification. Babies from birth to two years are cared for with a carer-to-child ratio of 1:3. Staff strongly support babies home routines to ensure continuity and stability, and encourage an extended settling-in process to enable parents and babies to get to know the teachers and the environment. Between two and three-and-a-half years children embark on an adventure of learning and seeking out indepen- dence. Angels semi-struc- tured programme gives kids many fun oppor- tunities for learning and skill-building, and makes it easy for them to master milestones like toileting and dressing. Daily outings give lots of exciting opportunity for learning too -- Angels toddlers are a familiar sight around Takapuna and people wave to the kids on their excursions around town. From three-and-a-half to five years learning and development really take off in preparation for school, and the centre offers an excellent transition-to-school pro- gramme implemented by trained primary teachers. The centre has strong ties with Takapuna Pri- mary School next door, and many Angels chil- dren make the transition to school so easily that they are able to skip new entrants class. As well as the close communication that s encouraged between parents and centre, teachers put a lot of effort into each child s portfolio so that you have a record of your child s days, which goes home at the end of every year. Angels excellent location and heaps of parking makes it very convenient for people in the Milford/Takapuna/ Devonport area. Call and have a chat about your child's needs, phone 486-4695. Alternatively call in for a visit and check out the wonderful facilities and warm environment for yourself, at 31 Anzac St, Takapuna.
