Restaurant co-manager David Lovison says a staff member was intimidated and had her car taken by two men who approached her in the carpark. The guys ap- proached her and asked her to get out, they got in and drove erratically and crashed the car into the terrace.'' He says they asked the woman if the car was an auto- matic or manual before get- ting in. They told her to get out after she told them it was an automatic, and they crashed it into a carpark wall straight away, Mr Lovison says. The woman was unharmed and returned to work the next day. Other car windows were smashed after the two took to them with a crutch from the back of the woman's car, Mr Lovison says. About 20 diners were at the restaurant at the time but the men didn't go inside, he says. He says the incident was quite unusual for the area. North Shore senior sergeant Brett Batty says police were called to the incident off State Highway 17 and a 34-year-old man was arrested nearby. He is facing a number of charges at the North Shore District Court including assault, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, theft, wilful damage and dangerous driv- ing. Deck set on fire By LIZ WILLIS Night rider: Wayne Marks came across a suspicious fire in Kell Park when cycling after his night shift finished. A bonfire lit by drinking youths has damaged a viewing deck in an Albany playground. Albany senior fire officer Ron Henderson is disgusted with the youths' behaviour. These idiots don't care who loses out as a result of their actions,'' Mr Henderson says. Albany firefighters were called to the fire in Kell Park by police shortly after midnight and it took two hours to fully extinguish. Torbay resident Wayne Marks contacted emergency services after spotting the fire on a late night cycle ride. Mr Marks says timber decking and grass were on fire and firefighters were able to stop it spreading further into the playground and nearby vegetation. A punch was thrown at security guards who ran into the youths who had lit the bonfire, and police were called. Mr Marks says it's not the first time he's come across suspicious behaviour on his ride. On another occasion he disturbed two men trying to saw their way through the fence on a property in The Land- ing. I'm quite a good security officer,'' he says.
