Xmas display complete with music By LISA HONEYBONE Lights, camera, action: The Brown family decorate their house for people to enjoy over the Christmas season. Photos: BEN WATSON With around 20,000 lights decorating their property, A Greenhithe family s Christmas display is putting Ponsonby s well-known Franklin Rd displays to shame. Carolyn and Graham Brown and their son Aaron, 26, have spent about a fort- night decorating their house inside and out. The display includes a man-made mega tree with more than 7000 lights. It stands at over two metres high and is synchronised to Christmas music which plays about every five minutes. Aaron spends months pro- gramming the lights that run by computerised controllers. The Browns have been decorating their home for around 15 years and have steadily increased their col- lection of lights. Some of them were bought when they were on holiday in China. Mr Brown says it only costs around $100 extra on their power bill to run the display. They were first inspired after a trip to the United States where people get right into the spirit of decorating their homes for the festive season, they say. With the new motorway running through to Greenhithe, the Browns don t get nearly the same volume of traffic passing by their house any more. They hope people will stop by to appreciate their display this Christmas. Visit 188 Upper Harbour Drive until Boxing Day.
