Photo: BEN WATSON THREE youths have been arrested after a pretend shoot- ing in Wairau Valley on Wednesday. Five police patrols and the Eagle helicopter pursued the carload of five youths who were in a black station wagon, and stopped them on Totaravale Drive. One young man was arrested on a disorderly behaviour charge for mucking around with a pistol, pretending to have been shot and causing public alarm'', sergeant Steven Matheson said. Another one was arrested for possession of a machine gun replica in public. A subsequent search of the car saw a third man arrested for possession of a cannabis pipe, Mr Matheson says. A fourth male and a female were allowed to go after speak- ing to police. North Shore police were alerted by a Wairau Valley industrial area worker who saw someone sitting in a car with a black gun on their lap. They then saw a passenger step outside and stagger around, clutching himself like he had been shot, Mr Matheson says. Police stopped the youths at Totaravale on the corner of Tawavale Cres and ordered them on to the grass where they were handcuffed and spoken to by police for several minutes. The three arrested are aged over 16 and are due to appear in the North Shore District Court.
