Church leader heads to help out at Greymouth By LIZ WILLIS and LISA HONEYBONE A North Shore church leader is heading to Greymouth to help clergy deal with the aftermath of the Pike River Mine tragedy. Reverend Jayson Rhodes of Takapuna s St Peter s Anglican Church is part of a team of Anglican clergy travelling to the region to offer their support to churches. Mr Rhodes says his background in media, including as a former Waitemata police media spokes- man, may also be of help to clergy. Meanwhile, churches around the North Shore are holding special prayers remembering the 29 miners and the Greymouth and Reefton families and community affected by the disaster. Mr Rhodes Takapuna church continues to burn candles as a symbol of remembrance for the dead miners and hope for the com- munity. Mr Rhodes says people are quietly coming into the church to remember the miners. Prayers for the miners and the community will also be said at all Sunday services at the Takapuna church. The Holy Trinity Anglican church in Devonport held a dedicated service for the Pike River miners last night at 7pm including candle lighting. The church will also include prayers during its Sunday services at 8am and 9.30am with a focus on dealing with grief and suffering. St Pauls By The Sea Anglican Church in Milford will have candle lighting as part of its Sunday services at 8am and 9.30am. Visitors are welcome to light a candle for the miners and any other tragedies that have occurred this year. Several churches around the Shore will include prayers for the miners in their usual Sunday ser- vice. They are: St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Devonport at 9am St Cuthberts Presbyterian Church in Browns Bay at 9am and 10.30am Takapuna Methodist Church at 10am St Joseph s Catholic Church in Takapuna at 7.30am, 10am and 7pm.
