The council has unveiled a $50 million improvement plan for major roads around the area including Glenvar Rd which serves as the gateway to the Long Bay Regional Park. Long-time resident Grant Dixon says they are concerned about the council not taking the upgrade of the top of Glenvar Rd seriously. It s a tight bottleneck, it s the gateway to Long Bay but it is evident insufficient money has been set aside for the rebuild of the top of Glenvar Rd, he says. He says this section feeds into the existing suburb and caters for the 3000 new houses to be built, Long Bay Baptist Church s 350-strong con- gregation, 2000 students at Long Bay Primary and Long Bay College and the more than 10,000 Long Bay Park visitors per day in peak season. With this huge traffic load the council must immediately make full provision for a complete upgrade of the top of Glenvar Rd. A make-do entrance will not do, Mr Dixon says. He says the council s upgrade plan for this sec- tion will keep the current configuration -- one lane on each direction -- and have a new foothpath on one side of the road. Mr Dixon says this is clearly inadequate. The council should review the plan and consider a more substantial upgrade to cope with future growth. The upgrade plans cover East Coast Rd from Oteha Valley Rd to Lonely Track Rd, Okura River and Vaughans roads. The council recently hosted an information evening to get residents feedback. Council project man- ager Chris Thomas says the feedback will be looked into by the council as it progresses with the project.
