IN BRIEF Sales slow The MTA says the new vehicle market was down for October, although this was predicted in the first month following the rise in GST. September was a very strong month, no doubt brought on by buyers seeking to beat the GST increase. This pre-GST surge in sales was always going to result in a sales dip in October, but the overall trend for the year remains positive. Registration data just released by NZ Transport Agency shows that at 7297 units, the overall new vehicle market for October was down by 647 units (8.1 percent) compared to September 2010. However, compared to the same month last year the market was up by 399 units (5.8 percent). AA entries good Sixty vehicles have been entered in the 2010 AA Motoring Excellence Awards, the 'Oscars' of the New Zealand motoring industry. The 11 award categories this year are: Small, compact, medium, large, small and large cross- over, luxury/executive, and performance cars; environmental; motoring journalism; customer satisfaction; and safety. A Supreme Winner will also be announced. The 60 vehicles, worth $3.8 million, have arrived at Taupo Motor Sport Park and judging will take place this week. 10 new Holdens Having already revealed the new VE Series II Commodore and its Barina Spark, Holden says it will launch a further 10 new models in 20 months, including variations on the Cruze theme, a new Captiva and a non-Spark Barina. Also in the pipeline is Holden's version of the Volt range-extended hybrid, and a new Colorado.
