The Probus Club of North Harbour meets every first Tuesday of the month at the Zion Hill Church Hall at the intersection of Onewa Rd and Birkenhead Ave, from 10am to noon. Club activities include taking part in bowling contests, outings, short walks and debates. Club president John Chambers says their group is not a fund- raising organisation and subscription at $30 yearly is nominal com- pared with a yacht or golf club. One-in-three dead unbelted According to research from the UK AA, more than a third of car occupants killed in collisions are not wearing seat belts. The report shows that seatbelts more than halve the risk of death in a collision, meaning the 7 percent of motorists who don t wear them are overrepresented in fatalities more than fourfold. The research also suggests that the sort of driver who chooses not to wear a safety belt is twice as likely to be involved in a crash in the first place than someone who does.Big bucks for Stig helmet Sophia Vaizey, a pro- duction worker on Top Gear, who was given The Stig s helmet as a leav- ing gift has sold it for about $NZ6000.
