The transport agency says the substantial fines imposed on two Auckland drivers for flouting safety laws restricting the hours they can work should serve as a reminder to them that the agency will not hesi- tate to prosecute errant drivers or operators. Corporate Auckland Cabs driver Sameh Soliman Gayed was fined $1992 after pleading guilty to work- ing more than 13 hours a day, more than 70 hours a week, not taking mandatory rest breaks and falsify- ing his log book details to cover his offending. Auckland City Cabs Combined driver Arthur Kiata was fined $6720 for excessive work hours and false log book details. He was also disqualified for a minimum one month from holding a commercial transport endorsement on his licence. Transport agency access and use group area manager Andy Thack- wray says the agency is serious about enforcing these safety regulations. Drivers who ignore the 13 hours work time rule are a danger to themselves, to their passengers and to other road users, Mr Thackwray says. Search for bassists Chamber choir Ambrosia is looking for more bassists. The bassists sought will need to be able to read music with some security and be prepared for a short interview and audition.
