The two-hour session is designed to help businesses understand the logistics, financial implications and cultural considerations that are needed to open the door to the huge Asian market. The event is on November 17 at BNZ Partners at 61 Constellation Drive, Mai- rangi Bay, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Enterprise manager Ngaio Merrick says the workshop is open to local business owners and managers wanting to embrace growth through export in Asia. Participants can gain knowledge about setting up office in Asia, tax issues, cul- tural differences, research and development funding programmes and Massey University s export pro- gramme. Hear from and get a chance to talk to exporting experts who have been there, done that and have firsthand experience in the Asian mar- ket, she says. Speakers are BNZ head of working capital and asset finance Brett Walters, TechNZ investment pro- gramme facilitator Chris Lock and FunctionEight Ltd managing director Martin Albert. Call 414-1341 or visit www.ens.org.nz for more information. Shake-up for PHOs By SARAH CODDINGTON Waitemata s primary health organisations are being cut from six to two wards. Under the new model the geographic bound- aries will be removed and general practices will be able to choose which PHO they belong to within Waitemata District Health Board. There will also be a new Maori organisation. Patients will still be able to choose their doc- tor, just as they can now. Board chairman Les- ter Levy says there is a strong move towards a regional approach to pri- mary care. The new model will support hospitals and PHOs working together towards a more collec- tive approach through the government s Better, Sooner, More Con- venient policy. Now the consultation has been completed, we are able to focus on our real interests which is shifting more services to primary care and cre- ating a more seamless healthcare system, Dr Levy says. Ginge needs your help for surgery Help me: Ginge needs medical attention and Animal Re-homing is encouraging North Shore Times readers to help out. By FELICITY REID Sickness is threatening to separate an elderly man from one of his closest companions. Ginge is more than just a pet to North Shore man Allan, he is family. So when his beloved cat started to vomit and lost his appetite, Allan used his last dollar to take Ginge to the vet in a carry cage he had hand- made for him. Allan was devastated to be told that eight-year-old Ginge has a lump in his lower intes- tine which requires investi- gative surgery. Browns Bay woman Linda Nunn of Animal Re-homing heard of his plight. The love Allan has for his cat is plain to see and plain to hear as Allan talks of the intelligence and emotions of his companion. He syringe fed Ginge from one week old when he was rejected from the litter. The trust between them is huge and the sadness in Allan s eyes was hard to bear. He was shy about accept- ing help but desperate to raise the funds for Ginge, Linda says. Allan is on an invalid s ben- efit and says he doesn t have the money to ensure his pet gets the required medical attention. Living in a small village for people over 60, Allan and Ginge are well-known to other residents who watch them go for six walks a day, with Ginge on a long lead until he gets used to the surroundings of his new home. He sits on my knee when I watch telly and he means the world to me. I d do anything for him because he s the only family I ve got. I just want him to get bet- ter and back how he was. I d hate to lose him, Allan says. Linda wants to book Ginge in for his surgery as soon as possible but her bills at two vet clinics already total close to $4000. North Shore Times read- ers have helped me with emergency vet care before and I m confident they will do it again for Allan and Ginge, she says. To help Ginge to get his surgery or to help Animal Re- homing with outstanding vet bills, post donations to Linda Nunn (Animal Re-homing), PO Box 35-298, Browns Bay, Auckland 0753. Direct payments may be made to Linda Nunn (Animal Re-homing), account number 12 3042 0208233 01. Visit the website at www.animalrehoming.co.nz.
