Potential to explore development and close to all amenities. Sold byBayleysTakapuna Sir Graham Henry and Sir Peter Leitch with the signed Marmite jar that is being auctioned off again for charity. What price for Marmite? MATTHEWGRAY It’s the jar of Marmite that just keeps giving. Sir Peter Leitch, aka The Mad Butcher, first bought it in 2011 for a whopping $2300 at a charity auction. Marmite was in short supply after the Sanitarium manufacturing plant was damaged in the Christchurch earthquake that same year and punters started calling it ‘‘black gold’’ as stocks ran out nationwide. Sir Peter’s jar was extra special because it was signed by former All Blacks coach and fellow knight Sir Graham Henry, who fronted a tongue-in-cheek TV advert telling Kiwis to keep calm in the face of the shortage. Sale proceeds went to Diabetes New Zealand before the jar was auctioned off a year later on Trade Me to raise a further $600 for Allergy Awareness Week. Its new owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, then donated it to Fairfax Media for use in any future fundraisers. Now it’s going under the ham- mer once more to buy iPads to support children with a range of long-term developmental problems. The Well Foundation – the official fundraising body for the Waitemata District Health Board in Auckland – needs $25,000 to reach the $122,000 target to equip community therapists with iPads to enhance its care to patients. Sir Peter, who struggled with dyslexia during his youth, says the ipads will help open up a new world for the children in particular. ‘‘I understand some of these kids have severe disabilities,’’ he says. ‘‘This project will give them a few more options so they too can enjoy some of the learning the rest of us take for granted.’’ Also up for grabs in separate Trade Me auctions is a framed All Blacks 2011 Rugby World Cup jersey signed by players; A 2009 Warriors Jersey signed by players; two signed copies of Graham Henry – Final Word by Bob Howitt and two signed copies of The Open Side by Richie McCaw with Greg McGee. ❚ Go to Trade Meand search for ‘‘Well Foundation fundraiser’’ to place your bid.
